I believe students gain the most when reading literature they are interested in. When they have learned to love reading, their interests will broaden. My goal is to help enable students to understand and communicate their own response to literature. I can help them with historical context and the like, while respecting their own views based on their personal experience. I always learn from students, as they provide their own unique insights on whatever we may be reading.

Within my specialty of physics, there is often a scientific theory to know and understand. Many times we as scientists use a conceptual model; often involving a drawing, diagram or other graphical representation to try to wrap our minds around and make sense of the theory. Attached to the conceptual model is often some logical process and/or computational aspect by which we solve problems. We practice problem solutions in a variety of ways to provide additional insight and understanding into the theory.
